The 3rd Annual College Slam Showcase Weekend kicked off on Thursday on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University. 25 players from 11 different teams and 9 college coaches took the field in the first prospect workout of the summer. Players ran 60’s, went through defensive evaluations, batting practice, and threw short bullpens in front of the coaches before playing a BP simulated game in front of the contingent of college coaches.

After battling wet fields most of Friday and Saturday, the contenders rose to the top. The Indiana Crushers, Indy Bats, and Indiana Eagles all finished the rain-shortened slate undefeated. While 6 teams finished pool play with 2 wins counting toward the Sunday seeding. Tough luck saw the Indiana Mustangs Red (2-2, 1-2 counting toward seeding) and the Indy Jets (3-1, 2-1 counting toward seeding) miss out on Sunday play.

Sunday morning opened up with a bang as both top seeds were bounced in the quarterfinals. The Indiana Thunder scored a run in the top of the 7th to knock off the Indiana Eagles 3-2 at Alexandria High School. In the other 1-4 matchup, the Fairfield Elite 17u team put the Crushers in a hole they could not climb out of, winning by a final of 4-0.

In the 2nd set of quarterfinal matchups, again the lower seeds prevailed as the Mudsox scored 3 in the top of the 1st and never look back defeated a tough Fairfield Elite 18u team 6-3. In the final Elite 8 showdown, the Oakland Whitecaps bounced the undefeated Indy Bats 11-3 setting up a matchup with the Fairfield Elite 17u.

The Final Four saw brought top-seeded teams their first victory as the Indiana Mudsox walked off in the bottom of the 7th against the Indiana Thunder, and the Oakland Whitecaps scraped by the Fairfield Elite 17u 4-2.

In the Championship game on Don Brandon Field at Anderson University, the Whitecaps jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating the Indiana Mudsox 12-2 in 5 innings to claim the 3rd Annual College Slam Showcase Weekend Championship.
